FRIENDS
Sitting here, I am thinking about friends, you know that we all need friends, in all shapes and sizes. Some friends hurt you, but you know they don't mean it, others just lost there way. But each friend that you have in your life time, are friends that you need on that moment to make you stronger. And of course with out friends life can be very dull.
I am sitting here thinking of my special friends that make up my most amazing bouquet of flowers.
Ooooo I need to go way back, I need to go back to Sub A(Grade 1), Aurora Primary School. Now there I discovered my very first true friend. I remember walking into my Sub A class, and the teacher kept asking me what is my name, I told her I am Ms Spurr, because she kept giving me her surname (and trust me I can't remember her surname) She told me that she is Ms Lillian, and I replied with a smile, I am Chantelle. I got to my chair and across me sat this girl with the biggest smile. Her name was Elizabeth-Ann, but everyone called her Lizanne. Guess what, we smiled and from day one, we become friends.
We shared lunch together, our favourite was when my mom would but biltong into my lunch box. And with a naughty look I would always say - I have "billy-billy-biltong" We were like sisters in primary school, did almost everything together, the day her parents had to move, I cried my eyes out. Now I was alone. No friend, no sister. But we wrote to each other every week. And even now we can just pick up the Blackberry and BBM each other as if no time has passed. This is one friendship that has stood the test of time.
Going to Welkom High was a great deal to us at that stage of our lives, you are going to high school. We were scared of the matric's, because you know you have two weeks of being a slave. But that made us part of the school. We had to wear our school uniform inside out and the wrong way around. And we would have a board stating what is our name and our favourite nursery rhyme. And you would try your best not to be seen by a matric, because you would be stopped and asked to recite your nursery rhyme.
Strange High school was a totally different scene, you had friends but it was always in a group, and at times, I felt that I never really could find the crowd that was like me, so I just drifted - till Std 8!! Michelle White and Mandy Whittle, now I got into that friendship circle pretty quickly and we had a lot of fun.
Matric!!! Now that was a year of fun and heart ache. Here I met up with a very special friend I also had in primary school - Natalie Hosmer. Now that is a girl who knows how to have fun!!!! She wore orange and black to her matric farewell, a very different dress that all of us. She was the one who I would call if I need to be banged up. I would never forget the accident I had with my scooter, we went to town to get her sister something for the baby, and I was on my way home and my scooter went sliding out from under me!! Of course I was nicely bruised and somehow I managed to crack my ankle. When I got home she is the first one I phone!! And guess what this accident happens 6 weeks before the matric farewell!!! I had to have a plaster cast on my leg!! Eish how stupid could on be!!!
Nats!!! Attending her wedding with my Casper(he was my boyfriend at the time) I caught her flowers and she said I was next. I just laughed, Cassie and myself where just starting to date, we had no wedding plans!! Well needless to say, we got married in September of 1996, and guess who helped with the wedding, jip it was Nats!! With the Kitchen tea, she even helped my dad to push me into the swimming pool!!! it was freezing that August afternoon!!!!
Even now even though I am sitting here in Sundra, we can bbm each other and catch up, and chat!!!
Elna Stassen, what can I say about this wonderful friend. We met at my daughters playgroup in Riebeeckstad - Sonstraal Speelgroepie, in 2004. She has 2 boys, and together with my daughter they played so nicely, and we became friends instantly. When my hubby had to move here to Springs in 2009, she was the one I could go to and talk to, and have coffee and blow off steam. She has been an amazing friend to me ever since. Yes we don't get a chance to talk to each other that often, but when we do, we can chat!!
2009 - Adele Briel!!!! Now what can I say about this crazy but wonderful woman, you really got to know her, to understand her mind. I was always ready for a coffee for her, and she was ready with a coffee for me when I needed to cry about something or if I was missing my mom. Adele was there for me, when my hubby went in for his op, when the doctors discovered Breast Cancer. She was the one who would look after my daughter when hubby was not feeling well. A real true friend here in Gauteng.
2010 - Rita Duvenhage!!! She opened up her home to us so that we could find our own plot. We would laugh together, talk till early morning. I loved her fireplace in the lounge, now that was the best place to be in the winter, putting wood onto it was the best. I really love playing with fire - hahahahha. Her daughter and my daughter love playing together. I can even remember that in the beginning of this year 2013 we went to Leeupoort. Oooo now that is a haven hidden away!! So peaceful and wonderful. And even now I can pick up the phone and we can whats app each other.
2011 - Trudie Smith!!!!! Another awesome friend. Another friend who loves coffee!! It seems like all my friends love coffee :) What can I say about this friend, I know that she is an wonderful person.
And along the road there are so many friends, that make up my bouquet. Colleen Krumm, Jo-Anne Strauss, Nadine Heasman, Tanya Cilliers, Maureen, Sharon, Selmarie, Diana, Karen, Marti, Marie So many friends and each one has made a difference in my life.
I know that I am not perfect and I have messed up some of the friendships, that there are now big cracks in them, but each friendship has made me grow and love even more.
To each and every friend. I love the difference you have made in my life.
Love always
C
